will-smith-in-seven-pound-001Directed by Gabriele Muccino. Starring Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, and Barry Pepper. Released by Columbia Pictures
Seven Pounds is Will Smith’s film through and through. He breathes, frets, loves, runs, grimaces, plots, impersonates and horrifies, with such telling effect, that one is often forced to gasp with admiration at his range of histrionics. Scenes such as the one when he repairs a redundant machine to please his beloved, or when he saves a dying woman’s honour, or even when he stares at the most dangerous fish on the planet, would not have been what they turned out to be without the verve and the intensity of the man. Others in the film are incidental, even the sexy Rosario Dawson. Smith forces us to personally live each moment of his anguish and despair. A film which touches us with its portrayal of one man’s feeling of life-long regret at having had a moment of madness for which he would repent forever. His madness and passion to seek redemption, with tragic results make the film truly gripping. Will Smith, take a bow!
